"Thor" or "PCK"?
Which is your favorite? (and why?)

I haven't played either one, but...

I'd get the PCK just so I didn't have to deal with the MW/B&S/VMI "big valves."

That's what I heard from other poeple, I also think that the Thor's prices are resonable. Do you belive that finishes on the Thor would also make some differences? (Silver vs Lacquer)

Silver is pretty but it tarnishes if you let it sit out. Lacquer doesn't tarnish, but it can scratch and wear through in time. I like the look of silver, but I'm not willing to pay for it.

I did buy lacquer.I liked the horn I bought better than the others,it was cheaper,i'm tired of tarnish...

I love my Thor, the pistons on the mine feel alot better than the ones on my 2155, it feels as easy as the valves on a baritone i have. I really enjoy it. Haven't played the other one.

To those Thor owners,

I see, so the intonation, color, and the valve(?) are superb on the Thor. However, does it work really well in any ensemble? Like matching tone color to trombones, play darker or lighter, etc.
Also, how about the range? I know that they have really solid pedal notes, but what about the high range? Thanks for the reply(s) btw.

Any comments about the overdrive factor? Do either of these horns help keep things "in the box"?

Maybe it's just me, but I felt like the thor wanted me to turn on the afterburner.

I don't own a Thor, but I view it as everything in a 4/4-5/4 the Miraphone 188 is not.

' need a low range? ' got it.

' need a more open blow? ' got it.

' need piston valves? ' got 'em.

' still want the 188 intonation and clarity? ' got those, too.

' need a price that, for now, doesn't climb up into the XX,XXX range? ' barely got that - for now.

Funny. My impression of the Thor is that it got all the best features from a marriage of a Mira 186 (or 188, whateva) and a Willson 3050.
