Our community orchestra has posted the program for this year's fall concert. Our first rehearsal is still a week a way so I have not seen the music yet, but I was wondering if any of the follwing compostions have a part written for tuba. If they do, what is the level of difficulty?
Gilbert & Sullivan – H.M.S. Pinafore Overture
Kulesha – Serenade for Strings
Tchaikovsky – Marche Slave, Op. 31
Grieg – Peer Gynt Suite No. 1
Waldteufel – Waltz “Les Patineursâ€
Do these compositions have parts for tuba?

Hey, you have some really nice music to work with there! The Tchaikovsky has the usual juicy licks. Nothing horrible technically but some good loud melodic playing. Beware the Brahms! While the vast majority of the part is really easy, the very end has a very nasty lick that I'm surprised doesn't show up more often on auditions. It jumps around quite a bit and hits a C just above the staff. As is typical with Brahms, the intonation has to be dead on while you're doing all that. I don't believe there is a part in the G&S overture, certainly not in the Kulesha string piece. Typical oompah-type parts in the Grieg and Waldteufel. Good luck and enjoy!
My opinion for what it's worth...
