In the light of a recent thread about ensemble clarity I am most curious about your ideas about the nature of the background ensemble.

Included with the latest ITEA Journal was a CD by the US Air Force Band of Mid- America. There is a piece on this recording that was composed by Sam Pilafian and Pat Sheridan called "To the Edge of Space", written for the Four Star Brass. I think that this group has five players, but this work is definitely an audience pleasing vehicle for a group of tubas and Wind Ensemble.

Thanks to Captain Donald Schofield (Tubist and Georgia Bulldog extraordinaire) for allowing this fine recroding to be distrubuted with the Journal!

I played the low tuba part on the edge of space this past year, if you are looking for a good group tuba concerto, it is a good time. Even though there are 5 parts, we did it with a tuba ensemble

Concerto Grosso

Post by Mike Forbes »

The Sotto Voce Quartet has done a piece called:

Concerto Grosso by Arcady Dubensky

with band and orchestra. It was originally for orchestral low brass section. Great piece.

We also have a host of things that we do with orchestra that are all Christmas related for Christmas Pops concerts.

Learn more about our rep. here:

There's also a piece that the Junction Tuba Quartet did at the Army Band Tuba Conference a few years ago by a German composer. I'm not sure who you may contact about that: Velvet Brown at PSU?

Good luck,
Mike
