Like most surveys, it says far more about the person conducting the survey than it does about those responding to it.

Try it again with questions that can actually be answered by multiple choices. I would have had to answer "other" for nearly every single question.

The "OTHER" is encouraged when possible.
Thanks though. I was trying to think of a way to mention the people who are on all the time and just look for stuff to complain about and waste everyone else's space and time on tubenet, and the rest of the internet for that matter, with negative bullshit, but I knew it wouldn't be long. Thanks for the input thou man.

You won't get many more participants with that type of a response. Rick Denney is one of the most respected contributors on tubenet. If you read posts properly you would probably know that.

I'm sorry, I didn't know there was allotted time and space for people on the internet. Would you mind telling me who delegates this? Maybe, Kyle, you can do the rest of us on this board a favor and not make it to 30 posts. Thanks! :D

P.S.

Are you in high school by any chance? I say this because after looking at your survey, I'd say the creator of that survey had the mental capacity of a 15-year old.

This survey seems to make the assumption that everyone using this forum is a tuba player and the euphonium and the folks who play it are just an afterthought or that the euphonium is just another insturment for tuba players to double on .

Has anyone esle noticed that this forum which is for both instruments is tottaly dominated by the tuba world? I have seen euphonium realted posts about very big news items just recieve barley any notice at all. Posts about new music, recording releases equipment manufacters etc. are just passed by with hardley any views or replies. Had they been tuba related the tuba folks would have been all over them ! I feel like I am in such a minority here .
Ok... there's my rant . Anyone got some cheese to go with my whine ?

That is a strange rant "Oldbandnerd"! Folks are only going to post and comment on things that interest them. Maybe the euphonium players on this forum are more shy and retiring, or just too busy practicing?

Either way, you cannot expect tuba players to comment on subjects where they are not interested, or have little knowledge - that is just the way things are.

Hmm... is this answer to my question about being in the minority ? I don't know. I have been a member here for approx. 4 years . Perhaps my memory fails me but it seems way back in the day ,2004 or so, euphonium posts and the interest in them where way more prominent than they are now. That's why I joined . I've seen a steady decline in the last year or so . I'm just lonely .... :(

I must be a real dumb-*** but I thought the survey was kind of fun. Who knows what sort of information Kyle is really after. I've seen some pretty stupid 'REAL' surveys that have been done by folks who make a lot of money doing it.

Maybe Kyle is really doing a survey on 'Who are the first TubeNetters to jump to conclusions and crucify the poster'.

Per one of the other threads about 'mean TubeNetters', this one pretty much drew them out. Be nice, guys. You were probably a stupid kid once, too.

So did I. I took it. And I also agreed with Rick. Regardless, do you like that, after having taken his little poll that he posted such snotty response to Rick that pretty much indirectly insulted everyone who took the time to take his poll?

Scumbag behavior is scumbag behavior. It deserves castigating. If it was done in public it deserves public castigating.

Troll or not, the originator of this thread sure did a good job of yanking the crank of the TubeNet 'meanies'. I think that is what the 'poll' was all about in the first place. You guys bit hard!

I would not say I'm mean. People say I'm fairly decent! Seriously, I don't like it when people who are around my age(24) being disrespectful to those who OBVIOUSLY know what they're talking about. You do not get the title of 'Resident Genius' for nothing! The bottom line is that not everyone is going to like you or what you do for whatever reason. Deal with it and move on.

Yes, I was stupid once. That is why I NEVER posted. I just read.

Way it is, OBN. This site has mostly tuba players and some euphers. Dave Werden's site is the reverse: mostly euph and some tuba. Not sure about tubanews.com; I slum there occasionally, seems to be a more even mix.

You are, but we still like you and the other euphers anyway - you guys are much easier to get along with than those dang trumpet players or even the chainsaw operators.

TubeNet Survey

Post by TubaRay »

keg84 wrote:I just wish there was a younger group on tubenet, not so academic and tight assed about things that don't need to be.
In exactly what manner would TubeNet be better if it had a younger group? Why is the age of the person an issue here? I believe there are good, solid posts made from people of virtually all ages. I am probably one of the older members of this forum. I don't know why that should matter at all to you, except for the fact that I bring a great deal of life experience along with me. I also have paid a lot of dues in the tuba world.

Another part of this has to do with respect. I feel pretty sure you would agree that respect has to be earned. So what part of "Resident Genius" did you not understand. Do you suppose this person might have done something to earn this. What seemed to garner the most negative response for you is your disrespect for Rick Denney. Since he is a person friend of mine, I believe I know him pretty well. I have spent hundreds of hours around him. He brings a lot of knowledge to the table, along with a really high IQ. The reason he is called Resident Genius is because of his track record on TubeNet. I only wish I had the respect on this forum that he has. So be careful when you start typing things about him, because you can be sure there will be those who will not like the disrespect. Wade may not be as diplomatic, but he is certainly worth paying attention to. I know I learn a lot from both of these guys.

As for the "not so academic and tight assed" comment, I would not describe this forum as being either of these. It is true that when you post something here it may very well receive a wide range of responses. This is why we have come to know this as the TNFJ(TubeNet Freak Jury). If you post something idiotic or inaccurate, you can pretty well count on being corrected. I have experienced this a number of times. It has made me more careful about what I post. I believe this is a good thing. In this manner, I end up learning more than I am able to help others. I hope that after a while I can pay this back.

I will admit that TubeNet has its flaws. Not everyone is respectful to everyone else. By and large, however, it seems worthy of some of my time participating in the process. I enjoy and I learn. If you can't take some minor criticism, maybe you should look elsewhere. If you are willing to adapt, welcome to TubeNet.

Let's not take ourselves so seriously, eh?

Rick Denney may be a resident genius but he can (and did) fight his own battles.

I did the survey. Filled it out all horsesh**, too. What else can you expect from a Trumpet Doofus masquerading as a tuba player?

Au contraire, I think we should take ourselve more seriously.

After all, I've even seen viola players post in here. Next, it'll be conductors. Then, we'll be getting THE HAND.

Let's nip this in the bud. :D
