Hey everybody --
I'm playing the Rutter Gloria soon and I just found out that I won't get to see the part until two hours before the performance. Is there anything in particular that I should be aware of?
Thanks!
Clinton

Re: Rutter Gloria
As I recall, the part isn't particularly difficult. It can, however, become a real adventure, depending on the conductor. I once played this with some of the finist players in San Antonio, yet it almost crashed and burned due to a choir director's difficulty in conducting it.clintow wrote:Hey everybody --

Works very well on a BBb. Must have done 7 this year!
As mentioned, some glorius moments but the 5/8 etc can be "choir led" shall we say.

I have played this piece so so many times and often I show up and they try and reduce the number of players and ask the tuba to cover both tuba and bass-bone. This is very doable but requires a lot of marking of the parts and in my case a lot of practice just getting used to the read.
Other than that just make sure you know the piece well enough to deal with any rhythmical problems.
For what it's worth.

And if anyone has a say in programing additional works to compliment a program featuring the Rutter's Gloria, Garry Wickliffe has arranged some great carols using the same instrumentation.
