Although I understand the seriousness of you get burglarized, I would have had to be carried away if they had left you a third euphonium. :D

you should move to north spring/woodlands or huntsville. north and way north of houston. area's great, great schools and band, and for the 20 years i've lived here we've never had ANY problems. i will have to say though, greg has it right with the pig. but i think this one would do a little bit more

Well, it looks like I missed a typo.

Regardless, the idea was that a junkie doing small time burglary instead of debt probably has a cell phone, which is used to contact a dealer. Since the hypothetical vigilante killed the guy, and has a vendetta against the entire problem, the phone would be a good place to start contacting folks to help climb the ladder, killing them off one-by-one.
Did you just watch a movie or something? You seem to be hollywood-inspired here...

Well that just sucks, knuxie. But, I'm glad you & your family are safe. There have been several incidents in the DFW 'burbs where homeowners have opened their door and gotten shot. My wife is home alone during the day & doesn't answer the door at all. When I answer it and I don't recognize the person, I answer holding my .357 behind my back. What the hell has society come to??

Serial numbers, serial numbers, serial numbers. And if it doens't have one, an "owner applied number" such as a DL, initials or the like. (Think hand tools) I have had over a half dozen recent burgs made because people had either of the above, and in one case, photos of the property.

knuxie, I am glad to hear that you were ripped by someone looking for quick cash, not someone bent on causing as much damage as they could. I am as glad to hear you made a report.

In the Sheriffin' business, I was trained up on the "park several houses away, and approach your target residence quietly" approach. Well, sometimes (not on a hot call, obviously, but one made by someone who was recently burglarized, perhaps...) I park the rig out in front of the house, parking lights on, and announce "Police!" on my way up the drive. And have still heard the .357 taking a rest before the door opens.

Gene Pokorny once told me about a bass player/teacher who parked his car at the University of Southern California (not in the best neighborhood of Los Angeles). The car was an old VW van which was on its last legs and the bassist was looking to get rid of it. He had his expensive German double bass and some Christmas presents in the back. When he came back only the bass was there, carefully placed away from where the car was leaking oil!
