program
I don't have the program with me but I remember:
Fanfare from La Peri
Pavane for a Dead Princess (EXCELLENT playing)
Fanfares Liturgiques
Fanfare from Martyrdom of St. Somebody (Debussy, I can't recall the exact title)
Pictures at an Exhibition (interesting arrangement, very different from what I expected)
Pavane (Faure)
Russian Sailors' Dance
Procession of the Nobles
EDIT: Grainger. Must have got my signals crossed.
EDIT: I can't believe this slipped my mind, but GP played an solo, Round Dance of the Golden Calf (from Gounod's Faust) Sounded awesome, per usual!

Dukas: Fanfare from La Peri

Gounod: Round Dance of the Golden Calf from Faust
featuring a Mr. Gene Pokorny as soloist, screeming out a part that should be played on an F tuba using his trusty (Yama?)York CC
Tomasi: Fanares Liturgiques
Intermission
Debussy: Fanfare from the Incidental Music to The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian
Mussorgsky/arr. Howarth: Pictures at an Exhibition
Encores
Faure: Pavane
Gliere: Russian Sailors' Dance
Rimsky-Korsakov: Procession of the Nobles
Grainger: Sussex Mummers' Christmas Carol
In addition to Gene Pokorny, compliments are in order for Mark Fisher on euphonium (listed as tenor tuba in the program) and William Russell of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago on the other tuba part.
If you can find someone who attended the concert ask them about James Smelser's account of "Mr. X" warming up. It's better told than written.

I'm still sorry I never bought Don's Holton from you!
Gosh, and I was always jealous of you!Alex C wrote:Damn I'm jealous of the people who got to hear this performance.
You know the hall: I was sitting in BOX A baby! Dropped the large coin. Place was packed, including late-added stage seating for a couple hundred more. Ironically, there was an unused seat in my box!
It was a tough 24 hours, learning about Mark, playing two big concerts, then hearing the CSO, and jumping on a train to O'hare to catch a plane, zooming out of town...
Have been running around shopping, trying not to let myself feel/think too much...
Take care my friend. Have a peaceful holiday season.
