Help me fix my gig bag!

Hey guys,

I've got this old, old Reunion Blues bag that I just absolutely love. From what I've gathered, it's from the 70s, so it's seen better days. Unfortunately, it recently suffered the demise of it's zipper. I took it to the local zipper guy and he said he would be hard pressed to find a zipper that long. I was hoping someone out there in TubeNet might have a suggestion of a solution. I wouldn't mind also getting the thing just all fixed up, leather treated, etc.

Follow this link These are zippers used in the fabrication of boat canvas (dodgers, biminis, etc..) They work excellently in gig bag repair.

that if you get a NEW bag, take it out to the driveway and run over it with the car a few times. throw it in a couple of mud puddles and run over it with the car some more. Drag it behind the car as you drive down the street.

Nothing screams "ROOKIE!!" more than showing up to a gig with a NEW gig bag.

That's like the guy who gets stuck out of town on business and a formal occasion comes up, so when he goes and rents a tuxedo, say, he wears a 42 jacket, he gets a 41 and wears it with his own standard white point collar dress shirt so it looks like it's his own he's had for (mumble) years, instead of it being obvious it's a rental.

Thanks to everyone for all the great tips. I'm going to look into a few of em, and I'll let you all know what happens in the end.

Haha. He is actually just a local shoe/purse repair guy. However, he was the only one I know of locally that dealt with zippers. So I dubbed him the zipper guy...

Sounds like he ought to have a store full of zippers, and clothing with zippers all over.. like those S&M pants that the "scene" kids wear.

I have had luck with gigbag repairs from places that do work on car upholstry and convertible tops. They found it an odd request, but they did a great job and had the right tools and materials to do the job.
