I was trying to find an image of the *ahem* small-statured guy that played the tiny (1/2 size at most) sousaphone in the movie "The New Guy", but couldn't find one anywhere. Drat.

I bought it. I jam with a Dixieland band and have been looking for a fun instrument, although I'll still keep looking for the right 4v Eb with a recording bell. As to the $300 price - being a native Eb player from the 50's does have an upside.

I don't think I could say enough good things about my Pan Am Eb sousa of similar design. It plays wonderfully, the tone is great, pound for pound it makes a lot of sound, it plays very well in tune, and it has a very lyrical quality. Best of all, it cost $50.

Eric - Thanks for the comments. I've been burned before buying a sousaphone without a test run so I'm a little nervous. What's the story on the $50 price? You should start a thread - lowest price paid for a serviceable horn.

Tom (cautiously optimistic that each note on the Pan Am will be within 25 cents of center  )

Looks refurbed or in really good shape for a c. 50 yr. old horn. Hope the valves look as good as the exterior. Seller does not seem to realize the horn is in Eb. Also, no PayPal :( I like as many options for protection between me and the seller as possible (eBay, PayPal, credit card) in the event of a dispute.

Gee golly whillikers, guys, why don't you send me a PM when something like this comes up? I mean, phooey.... :(
I'm not on Tubenet every day, due to my cube backing up right to the VP's office and he can look out his window and see my computer screen.
I can only browse when he's off somewhere doing VP stuff.
And I have dial-up at home and am not on that much either, so....if ya wanna do me a favor, do it in real time!
But thanks for the thoughts. I'm most likely to look and let go, frankly, but the fun for me lately seems to be in the looking.

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Due to other activities when the thread first started I missed out on joining the original conversation.

But found the title to be a bit misleading.

Then how the hell are you going to get a PM? :?

"Cheap fun, Mary Ann please ignore..."
Scoob, they've invented this thing called an 'eMail alert". Now, I know dogs can't read, but even violists can open their mail, it's just their cases they have troubles with. (no MA, I'm not calling YOU a violist, so no flames necessary... ) :D

There's a big difference between being a violist and calling someone a violist... :D
