As I recall, con sordino. But I have also seen con sordini, and abbreviated con sord., as it is in the Berlioz.

Mahler 1 - I know as I'm rehearsing at present.

I am sure there have been previous discussions on this subject (I think I may have started one myself), so worth checking the archives.

So, if I see "con sordini", I know to install at least two mutes?

Or, play with more than one white-faced French-persons walking into invisible walls...
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Are you sure about #2? I'm rehearsing VW Symphony No. 2 and I don't see anything in the part indicating a mute.

Copland, Billy The Kid Suite, Gunfight movement
SD

I am convinced that 90% of the problems with rhythm, tone, intonation, articulation, technique, and overall prowess on the horn are related to air issues.

I'm thinking I remember using a mute in The Tenderland Suite also.

For wind ensemble: Ticheli's Symphony No. 2

My fellow tuba player in Wind Ensemble and I decided to put out jackets partially down the bells in the muted parts.

Needless to say, we were the coolest guys ever.

Con sordini, must be from my violin playing. In the violin section it is sometimes written out plural.
