I can never remember how to post pictures, but I own a 1290.
If I am not mistaken, the 1291 is the "update" of the 1290. I play right between 2 1291's in band, and you can really see the similarities between the horns.
It also is rumored that the 1290 had a lot of "dogs" out there. I, luckily, own a really fine example of the horn (and I think it had some tweaking done before I bought it).
The 1290 looks a lot like the 1291 only stretched out. It is a very open wrap, which makes it appear larger. My bell happens to be larger than the 1291's as well.

oh, and my 1290 is spelled "Mirafone" like many models of Miraphone's at that particular time.

I believe the 1290 was Miraphone's first attempt at entering the piston CC market. I played on a colleague's and thought it played pretty nicely. It is a tall horn on the larger end of 4/4 with a more vertical wrap than the 191/1291 series. As noted above, it got mixed reviews and was discontinued.

Mr.
Yes, my 1290 is more of a 5/4. The bell is larger than the 1291 and so I consider mine more of a 5/4 than the 1291. I personally still consider the 1291 a 4/4 anyways.
