Television???

Post by trseaman »

It's just amazing to me how watching TV has changed in the past 25-30 years...So many channels, so much money, still nothing on, etc... So when you watch TV what is your preferred source? What are your thoughts about that service?

We switched from the DISH NETWORK to Comcast cable . We did it to save money . Comcast gave us high speed internet, phone and cable tv for 99$ a month for two years. We saved about $150 a month doing this. The selection of channels were not and great as the dish service was .

Yes, the Bruce Springsteen song is still the way it is: 67 channels and nothing on. (OK, now its 167, or 267, or whatever -- point made.)

I'm just trying to figure out the budget if I want a digital converter with the $40 discount coupon you can get from the government, or just drop the $$ for a new TV.

Ah, the days of purchasing UHF converters for VHF TV's comes back to mind....

weekday mornings: getting up and getting ready to work...no time to watch mindless rehashes/spins of news or how-to-cook-a-yam morning shows

weekdays: I'M WORKING. I can listen to the radio most of the time, but I can't watch T.V. (particularly not DUMB T.V.)

evening: dinner preparation, dinner, paperwork, a bit of tuba practicing, email-auctions-news websites-TubeNet, OK...when I'm SLEEPY, I'll watch a bit of local news and Letterman for a few minutes.

weekends: Are you KIDDING? It's the WEEKEND. Either I'm going to play a couple of gigs, catch up on WORK, or I'm going to have some FUN. TV [not equal to] true fun.

(TubeNet does not support the [not equal to] sign...When I tried to type it, I got a superscript "1".[/quote]

If I tried to do away with Dora the Explorer, The Backyardigans, Elmo, and those annoying Wonder Pets, my 2 and 3 year old daughters would probably put a hit out on me...

Dearest Mommy shells out the big ones for Directv. I absolutely love it.

I love it especially when she screws with Customer Service and we get free HBO for 6 months. :D

I can't think of the last time I watched network TV for something other than football. I do watch ESPN, The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, and the Weather Channel quite a bit, and sometimes will dial in my local news program.

Well done good sirs! Bloke, your turn!

I guess I should also get on topic and chime in on my TV. I have basic Comcast cable, since that's what feeds into my apt. I'd just as soon have the rent include something useful, like phone or internet.

On the other hand, having cable does allow me to, when I so choose, to relax with a good Mythbusters marathon or an old movie on TCM.

I do cable only because basic cable is required to get cable internet. Before that, I had (still do) an antenna in the attic pointed in the direction of all the TV transmitters. About the only TV I watch these days is the occasional episode of Dr. Who. At my previous house, it was in a high part of town (high, as in elevation), and the outdoor antenna was on a rotator. I think I got more stations than basic cable.

Be warned. over-the-air antenna users!

The end is near! The end is near!

The US FCC is finally saying (welll, again saying) all OTA TV broadcasters must be in HD by next year sometime. You'll have to buy a converter to use the HD signal on your 4:3 TV.

Cable and satellite users are fine, the service provider is required to make the converted signal for their users.

I'm on antenna, but am weighing options before next Feb. to decide what to do about that and about the older non-digital TV. It'll have to wait until spring or summer to see where/if I end up moving for grad school. May end up back in campus (married) housing, hopefully with included cable
