SIUC Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall, March 26, 2008

From the SIUC school of music website: "The SIUC Wind Ensemble, conducted by Assistant Professor and Director of Bands Dr. Christopher Morehouse, has been invited to give their Carnegie Hall debut in March 2008 (Wednesday, March 26, 2008) as part of the 2008 New York Band and Orchestra Festival. The Wind Ensemble is one of only two showcase ensembles selected by competitive audition to give an exhibition performance at the culmination of the festival; the other ensemble is the Northamptonshire Orchestral Winds from England.

The concert will feature several SIUC faculty soloists and performers:

Jeanine Wagner, soprano, Suzanne Lord, flute, Edward Benyas, oboe, Eric Mandat, clarinet, Melissa Mackey, bassoon, and Jennifer Presar, horn.

Hey man, have a great time! I went to SIU-C for one year (I'm originally from Southern Illinois) before I followed Pokorny up to Chicago. Mike Hanes was still the conductor (Robert Weiss was the tuba/trombone prof). I still have fond memories of that place...marching band, Phi Mu Alpha, Altgeld Hall, playing in a rock band at The Hanger.

Thank you sir! Currently I am studying under Andrew Tucker. I play regularly at Dr. Weiss' church. He retired last year from the university, but SIUC recently hired Tim Pitchford (he has played with MANY top names in the business) as the trombone professor. He is a fantastic player. Mike Hanes is definitely a presence that is felt around altgeld still with much fondness.

I must say I have had quite a few good times at hanger. Did they do nonstop reggae when you were here?
