Ulster Orchestra Mahler 2/ Benjamin Zander

Post by ZNC Dandy »

I saw a documentary about Benjamin Zander on TV a few days ago, and it closed with the last 5 minutes of a Performance of Mahler 2. The tuba player is playing a comp EEb. Absolutely gigantic sound. Just massive and gorgeous. Anyone know who this was? Just made me want a EEb even more than I already do.

Zander is in town to conduct the Akron Symphony on Mahler 2 this weekend. A show in Akron and one at Severance.

Linky.

After seeing you message. I drove the 3 1/2 hrs with my girlfriend to Akron. It was a SPECTACULAR performance. Ben Zander's energy and effervescence are infectious. It really translates in his performance. He is also one of the nicest most gracious men I have ever met. I had the privledge after the concert, he spent a good deal of time with everyone who waited to meet him. Thanks for the heads up!

P.S. That documentary was recorded in 1997 I believe. The tubist was Ewan Easton. What a fantastic tuba player.

Exquisite. As did the enire brass section. The whole orchestra was amazing. As was the chorus. Not sure what horn he was playing, but it wasn't his Alexander. Sounded great though.
