Bobo on Carson on YouTube
Someone recently put a couple of videos of Roger Bobo's appearances on "The Tonight Show" on YouTube. If it's someone on this list, many thanks.

I haven't seen the C. of V. clip before, but the other one, (title escapes me) I saw that when it aired. I was a very young and very mediocre trombone operator. Bobo blew my mind. Not just the playing, but the attitude he brought on stage, and the simple fact that this guy got on the freakin' TONIGHT SHOW playing tuba. That appearance is probably one of the reasons I thought it would be cool to switch to tuba when the opportunity came along in middle school.

The following is from a post on this forum made back in 2004:Jeffrey Hicks wrote:what horn is he playing in these?
"Roger played his B&S f from 1979 until he left for Italy in 1989. His B&S and 188 were always at his side when he played with the LAPO. His old B&S is a truly great instrument. By far the best B&S I?ve ever played. It started its life as a six-valve tuba and Larry Minick removed the 6th valve. The left hand fifth valve was changed to 2/3 and a slide kicker was added for the left thumb (Roger had that set up on all of his tubas)
I think he recorded a few things on his B&S: Morning Song (not sure) and the Schubert Serenade (I?m sure about that one) on ?Prunes? were recorded on the B&S as well as many LAPO recordings in the 1980's
Chuck Koontz currently owns that tuba.
I would LOVE to own that tuba!

I thought that was interesting that Johnny Carson mentioned that he had never seen Doc and the band react so enthusiastically to another musician before. That speaks volumes to me.

There really is a wealth of cool stuff there, but it's hard to sort through all the junk sometimes. I'm trying to do that for myself and others. This page:
http://www.dwerden.com/music-videos/tub ... videos.cfm
has a collection of videos of tuba (or tuba-related) clips from YouTube. There are 42 as of right now. I will drop them as they are deleted from the parent site, and add more as I see ones that are good quality. There are also links there to my collections of euphonium and brass ensemble videos.

I do own that tuba now, but have recently decided to sell it. It's an incredible horn, but I am using my Yamaha more and more these days, and the B&S is just sitting with only occassional use. This is a horn that NEEDS to be played.tubacdk wrote:the horn is, last I knew, now owned by Scott Sutherland.

.
Lots of great videos.
Does anyone have the video of that Rock Band with the Tuba from Itec several years back, where the bridesmaids from the wedding next door crashed the gig?
