I think I played one of these things at Dave Fedderly's place several years ago. He was having a heck of a time selling it. It didn't play well on either side of the horn, if I remember. I do know that I didn't have one ounce of desire to own or play one of the things at that time or since then.

On an unrelated topic, how do you get the color and bold text in these posts? I highlighted a word and tried to apply color to it and nothing happened. Anyone with some wisdom?

Here is the explanation for the playing problems of the horn, at least the only explanation I can come up with. They took the body of a MW 45SLP, and add a 5th valve that took it down to a CC. It was an okay F, but I can't see anyone buying this as a double, maybe as an F with an okay low range, but its not something I would take into a band or orchestra and try to play low parts. I think the successful double tubas were a CC base and had the other side F, rather than the open horn playing in F, and the extra side in CC. It won't be made for long, its really a terrible horn.

I've played this horn several times. It was a road demo model for MW for many, many years and has been in and out of many tuba shops.

I don't remember being very impressed by it. The entire horn was a compromise, at best. It is fun to play around with and would be a neat conversation piece/collectors item, but I don't see it being used as someones main horn.
