Civil War Brass Bands

I'm exploring getting a Civil War reenactment band to collaborate on a concert with a local orchestra. Anyone have any recommendations for a good, professional ensemble of this type?

Try saxtonscornetband.com This is the best civil war re-enactment band I've seen; they use period instruments and are very intent on detail. Check 'em out.

The Old Bethpage Restoration Village Brass Band on Long Island. We played a couple of tracks on the Ken Burns Civil War Documentary. We play around 20 gigs a year at the village and another 5-10 outside the village. We're pictured here as a sextet, but we also operate as an 11 piece ens. too.

I have a CD of the Americus Brass Band, one of the oldest modern era brass bands started specifically for Civil War reinactments, taking its name from an actual Civil War band. Exceptional:

Give our group a look for your program. We've branched out more into the concert halls lately. Still do the occasional reenactment and movie sound track as needed but have developed a concert program showcasing the brass band movement through the Civil War to the Dodge City Cowboy Band to Sousa.

Yes I remember when they were formed back in the 1970's with mostly Long Beach State Band folks where Kurt Curtis' dad Larry was the director. Leigh Schwartz and I marched next to eachother in the Big Brown Music Machine and Pat Mullen helps runs the Long Beach State Alumni Band. Those were the days...

But.... are they willing to travel all the way to Cleveland, Ohio from SoCal for this gig and can the folks in Ohio afford to pay for your airfare?

Philadelphia Brigade Band
We are a lot closer than California and we work year round, unlike Yankee Brass Band. We work several major Civil War Balls, including the Blue-Gray Ball for Remembrance Day, Penna. State Capitol, Phila. Lincoln Day Ball, and some others. I happen to be the business manager, so maybe something can be worked out. http://www.becksband.com/
