Just looking for something that's a crowd pleaser, also kid friendly... It would be a plus if the keyboard chart was relatively simple. 8)

Any input would be appreciated.

Morning Song - kelleway

You will need some high chops, but it is a cool chart!

"Some" high chops? Surely you jest...

And, I believe, the OP said an easier piano part would be a plus. This one doesn't qualify...

That being said, this is still one of my favorite recital pieces...if you have the means, I highly recommend it!

How about Bassman's Holiday by Grant Hull. Our band did it some years ago and it was a crowd pleaser. Here is a link to YouTube of a band playing it if you want to hear it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfIzzXtjCLg

Google "Little tune for a big horn". This is a great swing band chart with bass trombone or tuba solo.

Or just play a classic. Say, Donna Lee, or Cherokee, or Straight No Chaser or something. Or maybe a Cole Porter or Jerome Kern tune. Jeez, the possibilities are LIMITLESS. Add a drummer (or not) and go for it. If you feel awkward improvising, start by writing something as a template, then branch out from there.
