Conn 2J vs 5J

In looking for a BBb I've come across a couple of these, none in my price range yet but......... What is the difference between these Conn models? I am familiar with the 5J but not the 2J.

Dont forget you can also still buy a new 5j. It has been awhile since they made the 2j.

the 2j is pretty different from the 5j in ways other than the key.The 3j is more like the 5j.The 2j is smaller and i think,made in the olds factory?I do know i really like the 2j for quintet and haven't had any real experience with the 3j.These ,in my opinion,tend to be a great value since they are out of style and only have 4 valves.I very stupidly sold mine to buy a 52j.Big mistake...

What I know I know: The 2J and 3J are CC tubas; the 4J and 5J are BBb tubas. They are all small 4-valve instruments. I own a 3J, and it's a very good horn for me as a doubler who never needs a big orchestral sound on tuba.

What I think I know: The 2J and 4J are Elkhart-era model numbers, and the 3J and 5J were introduced later. The corresponding model numbers spec very similarly, but the bells are a little bigger end diameter and the tuning slides are dual-radius (squared-off) in the later models. The 5J is the only one still in production.

Are those "Tuba LoJak" tags on the horns? Kind of like what put in jeans in department stores?

It does happen. Dillon's had a horn walk away from the Army Conference last year. They had a much higher "security" presence this year, including the electronic monitoring devices.
