Principal Tuba
Auditions: Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 September. Candidates must be available for both whole days.
Requirements: The complete Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto.
PLUS orchestral excerpts, available on Monday 18 August.
Closing date: Monday 4 August

Applicants for this position must be permanent Australian residents or citizens of New Zealand.
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra offers an attractive salary package for the successful candidate.

The person who won the audition didn't pass their trial period with the orchestra. The Australian audition system gives audition winners a trial period of about 6-12 months to play with the orchestra before a decision is made regarding their permanent appointment. Occasionally no appointment is made, as in this case. I don't know why this was, and in any case it would be inappropriate to discuss it here, but I will say that in my personal opinion the audition winner was a VERY fine player who would have done well in any audition anywhwere.

I live in Melbourne and although I haven't heard the bloke who got the job some one I know has and was totally in awe of him so ???????
