How does one go about getting an ensemble to play ones music?

Seems simple.. But who do you ask? Should I stick to small name groups? Or possibly be ambitious and ask some regional groups too?

All of the above. You never know until you ask.

Yes, definitely just ask. It might help to ask people you know or have been slightly acquainted with (School band directors, Honor band directors, private teachers, etc.) for assistance.

This semester, the community band I was part of played a piece written by a former student of the conductor (Guy who got a full ride to Julliard. Tuba player, to boot!).

I am working on something for brass quintet and a symphony orchestra. Both still in works... The Quintet is an arrangement of a Mozart Symphony, and the other is original..

I am not in a brass ensemble. My teacher actually is... with all professional players, so I am considering asking them to premier it.

Ask, but . . .

Just ask, but be fully prepared for your teacher to decline, without letting it hurt your feelings.

Well I plan on asking them first to play it and give me some comments. And then if they feel it is suited they possibly perform it in the future.
