Can a brother please get some phrasing?

Ugh, I hate some sousaphone players' pre-made rules that raw volume comes before music. [/rant]

The first time I marched into Alumni Bowl at Tuskegee Institute, I could hear the crowd chanting something. I asked one of the Pipers (this is what the members of the band are called... I was a new member, so I was a "Crab") "what is the crowd saying?' He told me they were chanting "Tu-ba Funk, Tu-ba Funk". We hadn't played a note yet. At the end of the day, give the crowd what they want. There'll still be time for the good stuff. 8)

I was rooting for the "little guy". I was that size in college.

The second group was pretty musical but really didn't 'swing'. The first group could have been replaced by a locomotive horn.

For what it's worth, Ryan, I agree with you. That situation sounds so very, very cool. That must have been a real rush.

I cant stand the way they sound! This is absolutely terrible! This is exactly how a tuba should NOT sound! There is no musicality or tone in anything they did! I have heard high school tuba players that sound better than them.

But alas, in the crasser enclaves of American culture, it is 'da bomb'.

Not everything has to be some big, tubby, dark "orchestral sound"!
We must reserve room for crass, spread tone, brighter than a thousand suns, uncontrolled tuba sounds as well.

As tuba players, we spend our musical lives as afterthoughts. Its nice to be center stage every now and then.
