add a mixture of warm water, salt, and baking soda.
place your silver trinket in the container so that it is in good contact with the aluminum foil.

cold tap water will also work, but both the salt and the baking soda speed things up.
sulphur is sucked off the silver. Google will find the details of the chemistry.
I taught this to my wife, and she was RealPleased with the way it polishes small jewelry items (she has a LOT of earrings). I've never tried a bath-tub sized set up for my tuba...but every once in awhile I consider it.
