Browser Update

Post by tubiker »

Dear all

First we had Internet Explorer
then we tried Opera
then Firefox
And now Safari has migrated from Mac to PC

Goto :-http://www.apple.com/safari/

For info and download

I got put onto it from a photo group in flickr - the colours are certainly more vivid and boy it loads up quick - but - tried to log into my Yahoo account and Yahoo didn't want to play yet so its suck it and see. Installation was a breeze - I reckon I'll be swinging between Firefox and Safari according to needs.

pip pip

That's exactly what I do. But I have a Mac. However, Safari rarely doesn't suit my needs.

I downloaded it a while ago and I'm finally getting around to trying it. So far so good. One plus...all of the buttons are on the left side of the browser..... not that stupid i.e. 7 thing of putting half of them on one side of the address bar and half on the other.

no...but you you must uncheck the auto load of said player and the auto update function....as well as telling it "no, I don't want you to be my default browser...and stop asking"

Am I missing something, or is there no "Home" button? If there is a way to add a "home" button, I think I might switch from Firefox... I very much like the look of Safari so far.

One other small complaint so far, though. I don't like how you have to click on the Bookmarks tab, and then scroll down to the Bookmarks Bar before you see your saved sites... I know I'm being petty, but it's an extra step that I don't have to take with IE or Firefox.

Menu > View > Customize Address Bar > drag "Home" button to address bar

"Menu > View > Show Bookmarks Bar" adds the bookmarks bar to the address bar.

Clicking on the Booksmarks Bar icon in the Bookmarks bar shows all items in the bookmarks bar.

Disclaimer: the foregoing is for Safari on a Mac; YMMV in Windows.

In my experience, Safari acts on Windows systems a lot like the whachacallit player from Apple. Steer clear, I say.

I dunno... I'm on day two with it, and now that I got my "home" button back, I'm really enjoying it. I haven't had any compatibility issues yet, and it seems to be just as stable as Firefox or IE. I really enjoy the built in spell-checker, and the overall look of it is a little more pleasing, I think.
To quote another ongoing thread, YMMV...
