Way back when I ordered my case from Walt Johnson, it acquired a couple of chips on its way to me. After calling Johnson, Walt himself got back to me and offered to repair the case, and then proceeded to tell me how he would do it.
I asked if his warranty wouild be voided if I did the repair as he suggested instead of shipping the case back.. His response was "of course not"--and if I wasn't satisfied with my own repair to ship the case back to him and he'd fix it anyway. I followed his instructions and the result was perfect--you can't tell where the case was chipped. I've since used his repair on a couple of other WJ cases with equally good results.
Like Joe says, nice folks.

Re: Alternatives for flight case
I had a flight case made for my 5198 at a local music shop. The guy measured my gig bag WITH the tuba inside, and made the case to fit the gig bag! This makes carrying your tuba very easy at your destination. He basically asked me what I wanted regarding handles, wheels, padding etc. and made the case for me! It was about $450 Canadian, and has worked really great! I can show you pics if you like!Jeremy Hildebrand wrote:I need a case I can fly with for a vmi 5198, and I've had a hard time maintaining contact with Walt Johnson. Thanks a lot

1)Call them on the phone.
Email is a terrible terrible form of comunication.. Have you ever noticed it *always* takes longer to find out what you need to know when you email someone?.. or worse yet after you write your two page email the reply manages to forget to answer the questions that you were most interested in. If you want *real* communication and a *quick* reply you've got to play phone tag.
2)Fax the dimension sheet.
They are great people that make a great product. They will work hard to make you very happy if you give them a chance.
