Can anyone suggest a good recording of Tchaikovsky Manfred Symphony to enjoy the tuba.
I have listened to two recordings recommended by the music critics, and in both cases the tuba is virtually inaudible, even where marked fff in the score
It would be nice to find a good recording from a tubist viewpoint
Jonathan "who does not think his Neptune will be inaudible when he plays Manfred this weekend!"
I'll hunt down a good recording when I'm at the radio station tomorrow. I seem to remember Mariss Jansons recording to be excellent. I'll let ya know what I come across.
Manfred Symphony Op.58 53:01

2 II Vivace con spirito 09:37

How about the 70s LSO/Previn recording. Fletch was always "on mike" with those EMI recordings. Sounds just huge ! Also try the Philharmonia/Muti if you can find it. Jenkins is massive on that one too !! Enjoy !!!

Thanks. I have just downloaded and that is just what I was look for - a recording with great tuba sound
IMHO Far, far better than the Oslo/Jansons
I am not a lover of downloads, so would have liked to have bought on CD, but the price - $89.95, the cheapest on Amazon. I am obviously not the only person who prefers the Previn!!!
