Re: Euphonium Audition!!!
Hello:
I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all who submitted materials for the euphonium audition. It's a difficult process and we appreciate all the hard work that goes into it.
All submissions have been screened. There were 27, and we will likely invite about 10. Tomorrow we will begin the notification process so those persons should receive that notice by the beginning of next week. If your submission was not selected, you will also receive notification. If you don't get word by the end of next week, contact me and I would be able to help you out.
I do not have names as of yet, the submissions are all numbers to the screening committee. I will not publish the names in any event.
There were (again!) many fine submissions.
While it's fresh, I have some observations:
1. Put your best selection first.
2. It's a band audition, include 2-3 excerpts.
3. If your selection includes a prolonged accompaniment introduction, please cut it.
4. Make sure your recording techniques are at a high level. If we hear a consistent buzz throughout, chances are someone will think it's your playing and not the recording set up.
5. Why does EVERYONE select Fantasie Original???? ; )
6. Time and tempo are essential elements to a qualifying submission.
7. Have someone screen your submission for you. What might sound good to you, at 11pm on a Sunday, might not be so good to a committee at 3 pm on a Thursday.
8. If it sounds like a practice room, or a hallway, (or your parents basement!) it won't come close to compare with one who got a studio or a nice sounding hall.
9. Intonation at the extreme registers is important. At both the high and low end. Just hitting the note is a good start, but take a few shots at it to get it right.
10. The line was quite clear between the submissions of those who were accepted and those who weren't.
Congratulations to all those who advanced.
I wish you all the best!

Re: Euphonium Audition!!!
Ms Lauren Veronie won the Euphonium position with The US Army Field Band. She contended in the Finals with two other very fine, well prepared musicians.
It was a very competitive audition and I would like to thank EVERYONE who submitted materials, attended the audition, and advanced to the finals. It was a tough process to go through and everyone should be commended for seeing the process through.
We are humbled by the talent displayed, and wish all who attended the best of luck in the future. I know we will be hearing a lot from these candidates in the future!
Safe Travels
