I have the chance to play in the community band at a local university's graduation in a while. I haven't been to the group for a while, but I think I'll reappear for graduation. I believe my friend said it was paying $30 per head.

Wow! That's $30 times, how many people did you say are graduating?

I meant $30 per head as in the people in the band.

Nope, I still have 2 years 'till my graduation and even then I probably will play in the band for it.

Mayhap they commence in a "graduated fashion" ... or some other manner "commence-urate" with their accomplishments?

(always wondered what -- in this context -- "commence" meant ... )

"commencement" is the start of one's life after the schooling. Thus, the name.

Only playing one this year, no rehearsal, quintet + an extra trumpet (speaking of wusses/wussae/wussi?). Unfortunately, Pump and Circumcision is the endurance test piece, it's about 20 minutes worth usually. Yes, this is a recurring gig, this will be 8 years now. Maybe they're hoping we'll get it right?

I'm commencing four times tomorrow, at $50 bucks a pop. And food.

And I'm bringing my game boy. Good times.

I am playing with a small ensemble for graduation ceremonies for 5 different schools in the university at which I am currently finishing my Ph.D. Two are on Friday afternoon/evening and three on Saturday morning/afternoon. In addition to providing dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday we are gettting about $40 per graduation. Next year I hope to be on the stage and therefore not playing.
