mouthpiece for miraphone 1292

Post by tubazach07 »

Hellow fellow tuba players. I am recently trying out a miraphone 1292 from brass wind and wood wind and I was wondering what mouthpieces have other tubists on tubenet found to go really well with the 1292. I am using the baer mouthpiece that came with the tuba. However, I found out that when I used my loud LM-10 mouthpiece that the low range really lit up. The only bad thing about the loud mouthpieces in my opinon, is that they tend to hide the upper over tones and I do not get the tone/sound that I want from them. I feel as if the loud mouthpiece tends to be on the dull side, in terms of tone. Please don't rip me a new one, I have nothing against loud mouthpieces. I am just stating my personal findings. Any suggestions are helpful. Thank you for your time.

I've been finding that the PT44 is a good, middle of the road MP for me and my 191. Low notes don't have quite the bawlzy fundamental power one might get from a bigger bowl, but they still play easily with plenty of power. High notes take a little work, but not too much. I'd say it does what one would expect based on the specifications of 33mm (nominal) diameter and moderately large 8.4mm throat (key to those low notes) and moderately deep bowl (not so deep as to put your tone in deep doodoo).

I use the Baer MMVI on my 1291. I used to have the original Baer mouthpiece, but I didn't like the rounded rim as much.

Thats also what I use on my 1291. It creates a great sound on those horns.

Has anyone used a PT-48 on a 191/1291/1292?
It's too big for my mug.
I can get some big bass out of the JK 2A.

While I'm at it here: Another good middle of the road mouthpiece is the Laskey 30G. But I don't think people should pay that price for a mouthpiece. If you do, you just encourage makers to charge more.

Sounds like what they tell student conductors about looking at the trombones ...

I have a 1292 and use pt-88 seems to be the best match for me...the al baer piece is ok but very restrictive on that horn. Atleast for me because I am alot bigger that alot of people at 6'6" so the 88 fits.
