What Key is This Tuba In?

After I got this thing playing... ...and the smoke still poured out. The black stuff is still present.

So here is the question: Do you think this stuff is pitch, what should I use to clean it, should I get a gas mask...

any chance of getting it ultrasonicly cleaned? that might help remove whatever gunk is smok'n when you work on it.

I might since it is pretty dirty and a little "fragrant" The local tech does have have the machine.
