Personalized license plates

I honestly don't expect that anyone but a euphonium or tuba player will get it . I never thought of this interpretation though. That's funny !

When I looked at all the available combinations I could have chosen anything I wanted because they were ALL available . Imagine that ! Here are some the others I considered: EUPHER,EUPHNM,EUPHIST,PLYEUPH . I choose EUPHMIST because there is a tuba player here in town that has TUBIST on his car and Mike Finn ( a member here who also lives in Va. ) has TOOBAH on his Jeep. Mike is a former Marine and TOOBAH is a mix of TUBA and the Marine yell of OOHRAH !! His very creative wife came up with that one.

Vanity plates appear to be a huge waste of money. I say this because I doubt the state of Alabama would put "fart-hornist" on one for me at any price.

I agree with you guys on the costs of the plates . Those plates only cost me $10.00. The plates that were on the truck were "Autisim Awareness" plates that I got for my austisitc daughter and were considered specialized plates. I had to pay $35.00 up front for them and then pay an extra $25.00 each year to keep them . These new plates will only cost me the inital $10.00 and nothing extra each year.
I believe Viriginia has the most specialized plates available of any state. It seems to me I recall reading a story about that in the newspaper some years ago. I've often noticed, when driving through Virginia, that the number of cars with personalized plates is enormous. I've always wondered if it was free, or just extremely inexpensive to get a personalized plate in Virginia... Now I have my answer!

Heck, for a one time charge of $10.00, I'd get one too!

Here in North Carolina, I pay about $25.00/year extra for my University of Florida specialized plate, but it's worth every penny. Fans and alumni of other schools (that aren't located in the Carolina's) always get pissed when they find out that the state doesn't offer a plate with their schools logo on it. Last time I checked, Virginia Tech was the only other non-Carolina school plate available.

It seems I need to correct my facts . This plate will cost me $10.00 annually . The $10.00 I paid up front was actually the annual fee .

My entire county, including deputies and town police, likely has fewer than sixty law enforcement officers. If I ever get pulled over for some "courtesy" warning (or whatever), I would prefer than there be NOTHING about my car that particular law enforcement officer would remember if they were to ever stop the same car again.

Quite the opposite for me... the county where I work has fewer than 12 law enforcement officers. I DO want them to recognize me. They will "overlook" a few mph over the posted speed limit when they see that it is me. Several of them were students of mine and they always wave when we pass. A few years ago, I was hit head-on and the investigating officer knew me and thus knew who was at fault... even if it had not been clearly obvious. Both cars were against the guard rail in my lane!

I hope you didn't mean this the way I'm reading it. They knew the other driver was at fault because you're a "friend of the police"??? I thought they are supposed to be a bit more impartial than that.

I know nearly all of the city officers here by name...I still would expect them to pull me over for "a few mph over" and fully investigate any sort of accident I'm involved with. After all, what happens if/when someone who's "better friends" with them hits you? Perhaps someone who gives a large donation to the police fund every year?

Finally, I really don't see any reason to "egg on" the government by showing them that I might have disposable income beyond the confiscatory amount(s) they require me to pay for various taxes, licenses, and fees.

Good grief Joe, how paranoid are you ? Do you honestly believe that some local-yokel hick cop will pull you over and slap you with a bunch of unwarranted fines and tickets just because he suspects you have a little extra change in your pocket? What the hell is going on in the state of Tennesse that makes you so suspicious of your local police dept. ? You sound like you're straight out of Orwell's "1984" . Big brother is right behind you and he's gonna get you !
Here's a tip for you Joe. Obey the posted speed limits and drive according to the rules of your state and you can drive anything you want and put anything you want on it and you'll never have to look over your shoulder again.

You read it correctly, I just did not type what I meant. Of course, I expected the officer to fully investigate (which he did), I do not know what I was getting at in that statement. Too late at night to be commenting, I suppose. But I have passed by a cruiser doing 43 mph in a 40 zone and not been stopped.

I guess I need to retract part of my statement. I DO INDEED have "vanity" plates on ALL FOUR of my vehicles: EACH ONE of them has a "John Deere plate mounted on the FRONT bumpers...(The vast majority of my county's police and deputies grew up on farms.)

I guess they didn't grow up on the RIGHT farms...
