Need an idea for a cadenza...

Post by jon112780 »

The chamber brass group that I'm playing with this summer is doing a piece with the theme of 'Yankee Doodle', that has a 6-8 measure (or so) tuba cadenza halfway into it. The 'stock' cadenza is ok, but I can write my own If I so choose... I would like to incorperate a bar or two of piece from the same time period/genre into it somehow, but I'm not sure what would be...

Working this melody into the cadenza isn't an issue, but finding a nice, easily recognizable tune from the same period is giving me a surprizing amount of trouble (I can't seem to remember any that I think would seem appropriate :( )

A couple of the other works being performed are patriotic in nature, but any ideas would definately be appreciated.

thanks!

The new Arban's book has their own version of Yankee Doodle in the back. You could possibly get some ideas from that.

You might try Chester, the "Battle Hymn" of the revolution
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
