Beautiful Music

I have been listening to several recordings of Barber's Agnus Dei (Adagio for Strings) and also Ase's Death from the Peer Gynt Suite, both of which are extremely moving. What are your favorite pieces like this?

Rachmanniov Symphony No. 2 and the second movement of Tchaikovsky Symphony No.2 are two which never fail to move me.

First heard the ASU (Arizona) chamber Orchestra play it in 1998.

The Silent Hills of my Childhood by George Farmer. I played it with an honor band this year. Reallllllllly sweet.

I love that one too. Who cares if it's overdone. Sleep is another great one, and I like the choral version just as well as the concert band version. I've played both of those. Really nice tuba parts.

A Flower for Teresa by Edmund Siennicki. I am not sure if it is even in print or if it ever was. just a great piece by a really nice composer.

"The Lord's Prayer" from "The Book of Mormon", a cantata by a Mormon composer (LeRoy Robertson, maybe???) Not performed often, and it's been 20+ years, but the thought of it still makes my breath faint.

1st movement, John Mackey's "Kingfishers Catch Fire," just gorgeous. 2nd movement, epic, powerful, moving, and probably the most incredible piece of music I've ever played. Regardless, it's magical.

Whitacre's "Lux Auruque" is my favorite of his, personally.
