Subtle bass trombone/tuba playing...

Post by poomshanka »

Nothing like some delicate pedal Ds to help set the mood. Guess this is why we practice those Rochuts down two octaves:

Fun starts around 1:20 into the track.

Enjoy!

Nice lullaby to fall asleep to. :D

EDIT: I found it in the tags.

If you like this, definitely check out the God of War and God of War II soundtracks. :tuba:

So someone with knowledge of such things fill me in. When it says "pedal Ds" does it mean D just below the staff, or an octave lower? If it's the former, is the tuba playing the same note, or an octave down?

Octave lower. Not sure about the tuba's part here.

If I had to guess, I'd say the bass trombone and tuba are in unison on a D an octave and a third below the staff (five ledger lines)...

I figured as much, after I listened to it a couple...four or five...about twenty more times for shere pleasure after I posted. Thanks. Where would one find more clips of recording sessions of that sort, particularly with more beefy low brass stuff?

There are some soundtracks here and there with nice writing for the low blowers, but I don't think I've ever heard something that was quite this "sublime". The video showing the "behind the scenes aerobic workout from Hell" is also quite unique.

The track is called "Light My Fire", and it can be found on the promo score from Hellboy (i.e. not the regular release of the soundtrack).
