I don't agree with this statement but I can see your side as well. As a 17 year old myself I can understand that most of us (and I know plenty) are very narrow minded. But to make such a blanket statement that we are all the same would just be as narrow minded.sloan wrote:when you are 17, there is only *one* side to any question.MikeMason wrote:I find it is actually helpful to argue all sides of an argument thoroughly before making a decision. When I was 17,probably not so much

Re: Excerpts for youth orch. audition(?)
Little update on my audition:
I had a lesson with teacher today, and he listened to me play some other stuff. To my surprise, he said that I should play the solo from Mahler 1 and the excerpt from the finale of Bruckner 7. Solo-wise, I have a section of the first movement of the Vaughan-Williams concerto and some excerpts from Grundman's Tuba Rhapsody ready to go. Time allotment will determine how much of what I'll perform.
Things look good and I feel really good. Thank you all for your support!

I got a letter today from the orchestra, and I have been accepted into their principal orchestra!
I feel really good right now. The season starts in mid-September and I am SUPER excited.

I played P to Q from the finale of Bruckner 7 and the solo from the 3rd movement of Mahler 1 along with 4 to 8 from the first movement of the Vaughan-Williams Concerto for Bass Tuba. That plus a few scales

That is a really great selection, and I bet the judges really enjoyed having someone play some orchestral literature! The Jackson wrote:I played P to Q from the finale of Bruckner 7 and the solo from the 3rd movement of Mahler 1 along with 4 to 8 from the first movement of the Vaughan-Williams Concerto for Bass Tuba.
