Excerpts Website?

Post by BriceT »

Hey All,

I have recently discovered the trombone and horn excerpt websites. Sure there is awesome recordings on both sites and many have relevance to the standard excerpts for tuba, but it is still not the same. Why is there no site like this for tuba and is there one in the making?

Man, would it be awesome if there was a tuba version of Tromboneexcerpts.org or Hornexcerpts.org.

With lots of collaboration, we could compile something like that.

I think that would be a great addition to dtemp's tuba wiki.

Tuba101 does have some very nice files there.

I've gotten all my orchestral parts (I've got a lot of the staple audition literature) from the internet. Sometimes, orchestras will post up the audition material on their website, so I download that. Tuba101 is very nice, as well.

I'd be willing to help out on this project with my limited resources

This is pretty cool, but I still wish we had something with orchestra recordings and scanned parts like the trombone website.

I know this is not the "popular" choice, but here is what I did:

I bought the Cherry Classics CD.

I have spent a good amount of money over 5 years buying great, and not so great, recordings of music that have "standard tuba rep."

If there is a piece I want to learn that is not public domain, I either buy the part or use my limited network to track it down.

In doing this, I have just about every part I could want. I also have at least two musical references to try and form an idea of my own. :tuba:

Dave Zerkel, the tuba teacher at the University of Georgia at Athens is working on a web site that will have recordings of standard tuba etudes and solos. Perhaps someone could approach Dave with the idea of adding excerpts to the site. Dave is a GREAT player and a nice guy. He may consider it.

Also, purchase Mr. Pokorny's CD of Tuba Excerpts on the Orchestra Pro Series.
