Dave Bergeron/Bargeron: Spelling and .mp3?

Post by imperialbari »

A few years ago the tuba community circulated an .mp3 with an insanely impressive solo by this artist. I wanted to hear it again, but I could not find it on my computer.

That lead me to realise that two spellings are possible, but which one is true?

And where do I find that .mp3 for a renewed download?

It's from a 2-CD recording of Blood Sweat & Tears titled "Live & Improvised." Came out in the early 90's, been out of print for a while. No sign of it on iTunes. I've got it on cassette, but haven't seen it around the house in years. No idea where it is. Great tuba solo in the middle of "And When I Die."

Actually, I think I might have an mp3 of it...

actually, Tom, the Live and Improvised album is from the 70's as far as the original recording. ('76 rings a bell.) The CD was released in '91, yes, but man, it does sound good on vinyl.

If you are referring to and when I die on that live album, Klaus Dietrich transcribed the solo by Bargeron. I actually just wrote a review of it for the ITEA Journal.

And When I Die by Laura Nyro for tuba solo by Dave Bargeron as recorded live by Blood, Sweat and Tears transcribed by Klaus Dietrich. Musikverlag Bruno Uetz. Voigtei 39, D-38820 Halberstadt/Germany. Tel ++49-3941-570040. Catalogue #BU 1416 http://www.uetz.de/music" target="_blank. €13.

Great stuff.

Wow. $45 and counting on Ebay?! I remember buying that album in 1993 at a local music store right after I bought my first CD player.....for $11.99!!!!!

My teacher in HS owned a vinyl copy he had picked up in Japan and played it for me one day in a lesson. I was so blown away buy this recording. A few months later, I just happened to be flipping through the jazz section in the record store across (now a GREAT bar!) from the music department at VT and found this recording on CD. Not only is the tuba solo jaw-dropping, but that band is soooo tight on this recording.

Definitely one of the luckiest CD buys I've ever made......

The "Go Down Gamblin" solo is one of the reasons why I started playing tuba in hs. The really cool thing (for me) is that, about 15 years ago, I did a recording in NYC. It was a commercial for Eveready Energizer batteries and was a take-off on the "Dies Ire" from Symphony Fantastique. It was scored for 4 euphs and tuba and Dave Bargeron was playing one of the euph parts. I actually got to talk with him and thank him for the inspiration!!

Great CD, great player. A couple of cool CD's with Michel Godard and him.
My CD of Live and Improvised is officially for sale though for 5 bucks less than the ebay one goes for....
Peace.

Holy crap, I just looked at the sample pdf of the solo. I have to get that and learn it...even if it takes me the rest of my life, that solo has been inspirational to me for a long time.
