Brass repair/cleaning in Chicago?

Post by Alex F »

I'll need to have my euphonium chem-cleaned some time later this summer. I tried to call the Brass Bow in Arlington Heights, IL this morning but the number listed on their web-site is disconnected. I know that their web-site is pre-historic but you would think they would at least list a current number.

Does anyone know whether or not the BB is still in business? If not, can anyone recommend a good repair/cleaning shop in Chicago or the near north/northwest suburbs?

There's a local music shop a few blocks from my house. I called this morning to ask how much it would cost to chem clean a euphonium. The reply, "A euph . . .what??" Needless to say, it's not going there. Did I say it was a MUSIC store?

Thanks

I would try Dana Hofer at Music & Arts in Itasca (http://www.musicarts.com/locations/store.cfm?stId=3202" target="_blank" target="_blank). He always gives me a good price for my big King tuba (≈$80) and he's done plenty of good work on it the past couple of years at a very decent price. If you call make sure you talk to him because sometimes they will give it to someone else. He's the best I know of in Chicago.
Good luck!

I second Dana Hofer and have had similarly good results.
