Re: Is this what I think it is?
Doesn't look like a 6/4 to me...only 3 valves is suspicious, and the bell section is too "long" compared to a monster like the one Dan Oberloh recently overhauled. The Holton 6/4s I've seen look more short and stubby in the bell section. But I could certainly be mistaken. I couldn't get anywhere trying to do a Holton serial number check.
That said, I would buy it for under $200...how bad could it be?

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Interesting. I thought this:Daniel C. Oberloh wrote:Holton model 340 BBb.![]()

was a 340, and it looks shorter and stubbier to me. Hard to argue with Dan Oberloh, though...he definitely knows his Holtons. Is it the weird camera angle? 'Cause that tuba look longer than a 340 to poppa!
EDIT: The horn in the link above looks different even in the same auction...check the pics from resting upright on the bottom bow versus sitting down on the bell. Looks like two different horns. Weird.

Anyone considering getting this and fixing it up as a four valve horn, refer to an extensive discussion on this a couple of months back.Daniel C. Oberloh wrote:Holton model 340 BBb.![]()

After restoration and remodel, it might be a super big horn but it won't be cheap. A few of you guys may have the repair chops to do it for yourself to use for yourself. All the rest of us need to use a Master Horn Jockey (tm) and that, friends, is expensive...

Re: Is this what I think it is?
Actually,
The model number in the latest catalog in my collection that has these tubas mentioned lists the 3 valve BBb as BB-340. The 4 valve is BBb is BB-345 and the CC ? You guessed it CC-345. The BB-350 is a 3 valve with recording bell and the BB-355 is a 4 valve with recording bell.

Re: Is this what I think it is?
I've been told that the mouthpiece goes in a special long leadpipe which is in the pilot's cockpit in the part missing from the picture.
