Rudy Meinl 6 Valve F Tuba for sale

Post by Dylan King »

After many long nights of tuba debate, I have decided to sell my 4/4 six valve Rudolf Meinl F tuba. I have been doing more and more studio work and have decided that a rotary F tuba doesn’t complement my Yorkbrunner 6/4 CC. I’m going to be purchasing a piston F in the near future.

I bought this horn from Tommy Johnson in 1992. He was playing it in the studios at the time along with his 188. When he got his Yamaha 822 F he stopped playing the Rudy and eventually sold it to me.

The horn is in fantastic condition. The 5th valve was converted by Robb Stewart from the left hand to a very comfortable right hand thumb position. Alan Baer worked on the valves around 1994 and they are super fast. The horn has a beautiful tone and an untouchable high register. It plays very well in tune, except for the second space C that should be played with the fourth valve if held out. It centers solidly on every note and slurring is a dream on this horn. The only hang-up is around the low register C, which has the typical German F tuba stuffiness. I don’t find it difficult, but I want to mention it anyways. Pedal notes on the horn are a breeze to play, even down to the F below the piano. You couldn’t ask for a more musical F tuba, especially for orchestral playing.

I’m asking $5700 for this tuba. It comes with a Reunion Blues gig bag, but no mouthpiece. I have to hang on to those.

Feel free to email me if you are interested or have any questions, and for more detailed pictures if you wish.

Did this sell on eBay? Or is it still available?

Do you have photos? The ones on the older post are no longer valid.

Thanks!

Good to hear everyone is happy. I wish those ebay scammers would get a clue and learn a little ethics. Someday the world will have better understanding, but until then, be careful out there.
