Yeah! What happened to BlokeFest? I've been training for throwing the horns to measure their size. I've been throwing a gunnysack half full of sand but wish I had a real horn to use. I haven't tried it with one of *my* horns but was wondering if "'Phant would send me one of his to practice with.

I believe Getzen made slides for the G50 that changed it from CC to BBb. None of the people who posted here about playing one were very complimentary about it, though.

The conversion involved flipping the rotor on the 5th valve 90 degrees so the default was open and not closed. You then adjusted the tuning slides as needed. With a screwdriver in hand it took about 60 seconds to make this change. On my CB-50, there was somewhat more resistance when I did this, but the pitch was actually spot on (it was also spot on as a CC tuba, as well). Now, for the life of my I can't figure out WHY someone would need to do this, but it did work reasonably well.

The problem was that it worked by rewiring the fifth valve linkage so that the trigger disengaged the fifth-valve branch. That tight crook on the fifth-valve (Rusk-style) was fine for a fifth but not for all the time. I knew one guy who had it widened to make it work better, but then he tried a new King 2341 and bought that.
