I recently purchased a used MW 2165. I am enjoying the horn a lot, but have yet to settle into a good mouthpiece/horn match. I've gone through just about everything in my bag of tricks, and have had some good experiences, but nothing to write home about. I know from my extensive lurking that more than a few tubenetters play the 2165, so if any of you have suggestions of things to try, I would really appreciate the input!
Just incase it influences your advice at all, my issues up to this point on the 2165 have been focus and clarity (the horn is plenty dark on it's own!). The mouthpieces that lend the best sound and control are pretty small for my personal taste, and I end up working harder in the low register. That's probably just the curse of 6/4 tubas and I'll have to learn to deal... but if those who have experienced similar things on similar horns have ideas, I'm all ears.
Thanks so much!
