Re: Update Update

Sunday, a tire on the wife's car was destroyed. She says she didn't drive on it flat (hmmmm). I spent about two hours observing the people (using the term loosely) in the Walmart service "express" line at the Walmart close to a part of town with one of the higher crime rates. I was reminded of Doc's post on page 59 of Friday's Funny.

Indeed!

UPDATE:

Splattertone's post barely qualifies as an update. It is certainly not news. Wally's place is a good place to find a lot of things, and not have to pay a fortune for them. The cost of this convenience is a very great inconvenience in having to put up with a lot of people who apparently ran when brains were handed out. Everyone probably remembers the dumb little joke: When they were handing out brains, he/she thought they said trains and ran away.(I know. I know. Not funny.)

Personally, I try to avoid making any more trip there than I have to.

UPDATE:

I have a jazz piano gig Friday, and a jazz bass gig Saturday.

I'm still looking for tuba work, but I WILL NOT "Play RVW for food."

Just wanted to keep you informed.

I know of the place. I live about 4 miles from it. Unfortunately, I've never eaten there. It has a very good reputation.

the elephant wrote:Where do you like now, Ray? I lived in Glenoaks Park, bounded by 410, Callaghan, Babcock, Wurzbach and Evers. It was a gang neighborhood back when you were living in Kirby in 1983. (Er, was it Kirby? That was a long time ago.) Do you live over by St. Lukes or in Oak Hills Terrace? Sunset Hills? Over off Inspiration? By Pat Neff middle school? You have me curious now, as to your neighborhood…
No address, now, just the neighborhood.
Nearest major intersection is Babcock & Huebner. Nearest school is Rudder M.S. Rudder is a good par 4 from my house. I'm pretty sure I could reach the band room in two.

I never actually lived in Kirby. Near Kirby, yes.

the elephant wrote: Yeah, so I rode over to play tuba ensembles with a girl from John Marshall, named Julie Martin. (Remember her?)
I very much remember her. She studied with me for a while. Later, she was in the Longhorn Band. I have completely lost contact with her. I have no idea where she is today.
the elephant wrote: Were you around in San Antonio in the early 1970s or were you in the Army with Barry Hawthorne?
I first lived in San Antonio in 1977 when I became a member of the Fifth Army Band. I met Barry when I was transferred to the Third Infantry Division Band in Wuerzburg, Germany. He was a good, solid tuba player. We actually had a very good section there.

You have brought back memories from another era.

For some reason, that location rings a bell with me.

the elephant wrote:Do you remember the silly local "urban legend" about H-E-B? It is NOT "Here Everyhing's Better" as listed above, but "Henry Edward Butt" (two t's).
That would be "Howard E. Butt".

You wouldn't want to get his name wrong, would you?

An apparition from the past (13 days ago) has appeared before us. A mystic in the mist, obscured by swirling veils of clouds, the chants of a ghostly medicine man shatter promises made...

I just wanted to make sure everyone was up-to-date.

You guys live too far south. The correct execution is actually "Shot! SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOre!!!"

And even though I live too far east now, GO 'WINGS!
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
