no comment on Bloke's locals....

at work (the county landfill) we are on the end of a transmission line, and so the power craps out all the time....our new office building project included a 350 hp backup generator to run the office, hazardous waste storage buildings fans and whatnot, the scalehouse and scales, water well, fire pump....it comes on at least once a week (besides testing, O&M).

power is one of those things that keeps your attention when it's intermitent.

Just like conducting...
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Most pumps run on part of the natural gas they are pumping. I've seen up close a piston engine pump -- BIG two stroke thing. On main pipelines, you got turbine (i.e. jet) engines.

I took my dogs hiking up in the mountains yesterday. After two days of heavy rain, a large tree on a steep slope above us decided life wasn't worth living and comitted suicide. It actuall fell behind us and we were at a safe distance and were not hurt.

If any of you are wondering, yes I did hear it and at least for short distances I can run as fast as a Golden Retriever.

There has also been a black bear hanging around my neighborhood. The Dept. of Fish and Wildlife has told our homeowners association to leave it alone and it will go into hibernation soon.

That is my nature (green?) update.

Congrats, brah!

How does it feel to live in a town that shares the same name as a world in the popular Microsoft video game Fable?

UPDATE:

We now have a new leader for the "Geekiest Thing Ever Said on TubeNet" award.

The use of the word "popular" gives this particular quote the extra "zing" of a winner!

Remember, official entries will be counted until the upcoming Presidential election, at which time a winner will be crowned. Good luck, geeks!

I started to comment on this, but decided I didn't want to invoke Sean's wrath.

NYSSMA auditions are weird, from what I know about other auditions...
VOCAL
Solos are ranked levels I-VI. For All-State, you must perform a Level VI.
90 points for the solo
10 points for sight-singing
INSTRUMENTAL
Same as vocal, only add 3 scales (you must know all major scales, judge chooses 3)
85 points solo
10 points sight reading
5 points scales

I'm probably missing some stuff but that's the basic idea.

Not sure, considering I've never heard of this "popular" game...
It would feel better if it was the name of a level in Halo though...

I just realized that TubeNet members are more interested in power outages than the fact that I could have been crushed by a falling tree or eaten by a bear.

I suspect that the power outage was caused by the extra load to the system from Wade's air conditioner.
