hey guys and gals,
I have a Shecter custom four string bass as shown on their website: http://www.scherterguitars.com" target="_blank
this is a fantastic looking and playing/sounding bass that I'm afraid to say is giving me a little bit of trouble. while playing, i tend to get feed back or "a fuzz" to the sound. i originally thought my EQ (GK backline II 410 cabinet with a GK backline II 300 watt head)was off but after adjusting and trying different combonations i thought my cabinet was screwing up so i switched to my roomate's ampeg combo. it turns out it's something wrong with my bass. when i turn the bottom pickup volume down the sound goes away but in turn diminishes the sound. my first instinct was that the ground wire had shifted but after inspecting the preamp the wire was in place. my other room mate thinks that it could be a soldering problem. has anyone ever had a similar problem? if so, what was the fix? I'm just trying to layout a budget for myself to plan repairs. thanks!

Re: problems with my bass
Adding to the possibility presented by the esteemed Bloke, two other possibilities that are quick to solve are a problem in the cord, or the grounding of your power supply. Since I am assuming that you and your room mate have not heard this problem before this incident, then likely the grounding is not the problem, but is possible if you have added other powered appliances or lights into that particular circuit.

If you have single coil pickups, you could be getting 60 Hz hum when only using one pickup. When using two pickups, they are wired out-of-phase to cancel this (the humbucking principle) Because of the phase cancellation, you will loose some gain.
All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

If you look inside you will see that many of the wires are bent.
This is not good. The electricity has to slow down to make it around the corners.

Re: problems with my bass
I'm sure you have already tried this but...
...have you replaced your battery lately? The bass is active, right? When the battery on my Kubicki gets low it tells me by adding a little "fuzz" to the sound. If I lower the volume, it goes away...sound familiar?
Of course it could be any number of things, but always try the simplest solution first.
Best 'o luck,
Craig
