Re: The CSO at the BBC Proms
It's one of the Yorks.
And no, the Yorks don't have a leadpipe tuning slide.
The last time I heard the CSO in London (was that January this year Johnathan?) Mr Pokorny was using a York.
I remember being surprised he'd travel with such a damageable/irreplaceable instrument...

Maybe he's secretly hoping it will be destroyed.Peach wrote:I remember being surprised he'd travel with such a damageable/irreplaceable instrument...

I hope the Messiaen went well? My own Mahler 6 was well received although my lips were done in after doing that and Pines of Rome

Why not? How else are you going to see your music while marching?Scooby Tuba wrote:I don't believe the YamaYorks have a lyre mount on the leadpipe...

I did notice a euphoniumBob1062 wrote:I had heard that Turnage will write for contrabassoon, contrabass trombone, saxophone,.... occasionally (kinda a foggy memory here). Were there any unusual instruments in his piece?

Doesn't the YamaYork come with an optional fiberglass recording bell and strap rings?Scooby Tuba wrote:You're right! What was I thinking!?!OldsRecording wrote:Why not? Just watched the Turnage again and it has 2 contrabassoons and 2 bass clarinets, plus the saxophone (?) as in the picture.Bob1062 wrote:Cool. I remember hearing a piece of his a few months back entitled "Blood on the Water" on the radio, and I seem to recall it having a bit of low woodwind stuff.
I have also included pic of the low brass complete with euph.

Jonathan, that's a soprano sax. (you seem confused as to what it is, based on the ?? you've been leaving! )

I don't know if you will be able to access outside the UK, but the CSO Shostakovich 4 can be heard at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00db5rd" target="_blank"
