JDRF Walk to cure Diabetes

Post by ken k »

Hello everyone,

As you may or may not know my son Karl is a type 1 diabetic and has been insulin dependent for over 3 years. While he has been a great kid, managing his blood glucose with the help of an insulin pump, it is always a roller coaster ride of good days and bad days. He has endured over 5000 finger pricks and glucose readings and of course will have many more in the years to come. I am not whining or asking for pity, but this is the life of a diabetic and there are thousands of great kids out there who deal with type 1 diabetes, otherwise known as Juvenile Diabetes, every day.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the leading sponsor of research to help find a cure for this disease. They helped to develop the insulin pump which helps diabetics administer their insulin without having to use syringes. They are presently developing continuous glucose monitors to help monitor one’s blood glucose without the dreaded finger pricks. Another near term goal is the development of an artificial pancreas which would monitor “BG” levels and automatically deliver the insulin. Their ultimate goal of course is a cure to get the pancreas to create insulin on its own again.

Kate, Karl and I are walking in the Reading, PA “JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes” on Sunday October 19 at Gring’s Mill Park and would appreciate any sponsorship you could give to the cause.

You can donate online at http://walk.jdrf.org/" target="_blank

Our team name is “Karl’s Krew” (FYI, I am registered as Kenneth Kemmerer)

Together we can help JDRF continue its research.

Thank you for your time.
