I don't know if it's been discussed before, so I apolagize if this is an annoying repeat thread.


Just throwing this question out there....

Is cutting a compensating horn impossible?
Say you had a small compensating Eb that you'd like to play in F(same 3+1 compensating config.)...
I know it's possible with regular top-action Ebs, but all the compensating loops make it alot more complicated.

I know the 983's that were hand cut were a COMPLETE failure.

The 983 F clones (made by besson)... the 982? It plays okay... but it is no replacement for a 5/6 valve F tuba's low range.

The problem is not just the usual cuts. It's cutting EVERYTHING, including the comp loops, and having to get twice as many cuts exactly right. This includes the comp loop on the 2nd valve, which is very short to begin with, and can be a pain to unsolder from the block.
