I have heard a good one, but I can't remember where. Age does that you know. It was probably CB or Empire. CB has an arrangement by Cable on their website for $20 but I don't know if that's the one I heard or not.

I have a marching band arrangement I did some time ago on hand (that is quite popular here in Cowboy country) that wouldn't take much modification to change into a brass quintet version, Joe. It is, unfortunately, just the fast part, although it would be interesting to hear the opening cello quartet stuff in a brass quintet setting.

Let me know if you can't find one and I could have it to you in under a week.

We use a Frackenpohl arrangement published by Kendor. It includes 28 measures of the Andante at the beginning (english horn solo?) followed by the lone ranger for the remainder. Not a easy arrangement. I think we recorded it once, I'll see if I can find it and send it to you somehow. Let me know if you would like more info.

We recorded when we were reading through some arrangements a couple years back. We just used my Zoom H4 recorder in one of the classrooms at our university. Student quintet.

EDIT: We didn't record the Andante. We tried playing it at some point later and didn't like it. It's really hard with all the cross rhythms. I think some of the instruments are in 3/4 with sixteenths while others are in 9/8. I'm sure if we had time and patience we could have learned how to put it together.

the Make Believe Brass has an arrangement done by Paul Chauvin. It's on their CD, available through Crystal Records. It opens with the cello solo done on the tuba, then kicks straight into the gallop. After a couple times through the gallop melody it transitions (rather seamlessly) into the Bonanza theme, then back into the last time through the W.T. gallop. It's tongue in cheek, and if you're wanting something "serious," this probably isn't what you're wanting. This is a fun, smart arrangement. I looked through the score once, contemplating an arrangement of the whole thing for BQ. Didn't take long for me to scrap that idea. No tympani for the distant thunder in the first section, endless eighth notes in the second section, the intricate duet in the third section, big violin part in the middle of the Lone Ranger... what a PITA that would be to arrange and make it playable, even with horses on each part. I bounced some ideas off of a few trumpet players, and none seemed too enthusiastic about any of it.

I think a compelling arrangement could be done for a BQ plus one percussionist. Two tymps, snare, marimba, maybe xylophone... maybe I'll get around to it, someday, if nobody else does first.

I remember sightreading an arrangement with a BQ a while ago. I don't remember the publisher or arranger of the tune, but I think it was pretty fun.

I'm going to second the Frankenpohl, it's a real good arangement.

I located a couple of pages of the Frankenpohl, enough to realize that it's the one I heard and liked. I also found one quite by accident on the Sibelius site. If you have Scorch installed you can check it out. It has a fast high solo in the tuba part. It's only the gallop though.
