I want one for my Nirschl but I don't know if it will fit. If anyone has used one of these I would love to know if it will work.

These are for 3 valve instruments... Small ones. I couldn't get them to fit my Conn sousaphone.

Anyone know where I can get something like this that will fit 4 large piston valves?

Not even my own idea, even if it fits my way of doing things:

Take a sock. Cotton, clean, no auxiliary holes, colour after your choice (but preferably discrete). Cut and/or fold it to fit the bottom end of your piston block.

Lets the air come through, but catches oil and water dripping from the pistons. Cheaper than any dedicated device. If economy is a factor, you might have to buy one more tuba or sousaphone to exploit the full potential of a pair of socks.

get a piece of 1" PVC pipe, and 2 end caps (guessing at the size, YMMV), and do some cutting. get a piece plenty long so you can experiment and re-do. Tools: hacksaw, drill.

I use one on My Yamaha sousaphone. It works pretty good if you don't intend one putting it on and taking it off frequently. I let mine sit out in the sun for a while to warm up and it went on the valves with ease. Doing it cold is a chore.

I've been told by my repair guy that the plastic used for Grime Gutter will cause the a silver horn to blacjen and will eventually eat the silver finish off. Has anyone evver heard of this or experienced it ?

mine is a school horn so I don't worry about it. I can imagine that it would cause pretty bad tarnish if left on for many sessions. Mine tends to be soaked (it comes with 2 felt pads cut to the shape of the rubber piece, I recommend alternating between the two as frequently as possible. I don't mind a bit of tarnish on a horn, especially on the valves. I doubt that te siver plating would just come off that easy but I could be wrong.
